RESIDENCY – RESEARCH AND NEW TECHNOLOGY – CAIRO EGYPT

BACK TO THE ROOTSWhere Teta’s Water Murmurs, Memory Reinvents Itself

For this residency in Cairo, titled “Back to the Source,” my previous work and research have led me to explore new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. This vast field, with its boundless database, represents an opening to a parallel world whose transformative effects on us remain uncertain. My initial curiosity drove me to open this door.
It all began when I received a widely circulated message from artists urging me to protect images of my work shared on social media to prevent them from being used to fuel an AI database. Ironically, as artists, we spend our time reflecting on and questioning the world, addressing contemporary societal issues, and defending our copyright.
AI immerses us in a fascinating and surprising reality, where a simple phrase or keywords can produce astonishing visual creations. This process evoked mixed feelings in me: in the future, will we be able to do without artists and other already precarious professions? Considering the rich history of art and the unique sensitivity of human-crafted works, it is clear that our creations have limits that AI seems to transcend. AI, devoid of emotions, tireless, and available around the clock, embodies both fascination and concern. Does it offer a new vision? Is it a vector of change, and what is its true power?
